VOCA AS is parent company of Optilift AS. This company has recently signed a groundbreaking contract with Palfinger and Aker BP to jointly develop and deliver the world's first autonomous offshore cranes. These cranes will revolutionize the offshore industry, making unmanned offshore platforms a reality and contributing to improved safety, reduced costs, and lower CO2 emissions. VOCA performs the actual development tasks as a subcontractor and on behalf of Optilift. Being part of a development team employed in VOCA, you will join dedicated professionals working on this project. A development team will consist of skilled engineers from Optilift AS/VOCA throughout the project period. The project is also engaging a far larger number of people within Palfinger and Aker BP.

Position Overview:
As a Cybernetics Engineer at VOCA, you will play a pivotal role in driving the development and implementation of state-of-the-art cybernetic systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead cutting-edge projects at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design, integration, and optimization of intelligent systems that exhibit adaptive behavior in response to dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design and Architecture:
    • Lead the conceptualization and design of cybernetic systems, ensuring alignment with project goals and technological requirements.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cybernetic components seamlessly into larger systems, considering both hardware and software aspects.
  • Algorithm Development:
    • Spearhead the development and implementation of advanced algorithms for sensor fusion, feedback control, and adaptive learning.
    • Optimize algorithms to meet real-time processing constraints, ensuring efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Machine Learning Integration:
    • Drive the integration of machine learning models to enhance the decision-making capabilities of cybernetic systems.
    • Work closely with data scientists to leverage diverse datasets for training, validation, and continuous improvement.
  • Hardware and Software Integration:
    • Oversee the integration of cybernetic components with hardware and software systems, ensuring seamless communication and interoperability.
    • Collaborate with hardware engineers to address challenges related to connectivity and system compatibility.
  • Testing and Validation:
    • Develop comprehensive testing protocols to validate the functionality, reliability, and performance of cybernetic systems.
    • Conduct thorough testing, employing systematic troubleshooting and debugging methodologies to identify and address issues promptly.
  • Documentation:
    • Create detailed and organized documentation for cybernetic systems, including design specifications, test plans, and operational manuals.
    • Ensure that documentation adheres to industry standards and best practices, facilitating clear communication and knowledge transfer.
  • Research and Development:
    • Stay at the forefront of technological advancements in cybernetics, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
    • Contribute to research projects aimed at expanding the capabilities and applications of cybernetic technology.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Cybernetics, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing cybernetic systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, or similar.
  • Experience with real-time processing and control systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their practical application is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
